MAIN TEACHER OF THE COURSE 

Olga Mirza
Vice Artistic Director and Principal Teacher, Tivoli Ballet School 

Olga Mirza received her professional ballet education at the Belarusian State Choreographic College and was invited to join the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theatre as a classical dancer and soloist in character dance before graduating. She holds a master’s degree with honors and completed postgraduate studies in ballet pedagogy at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. 

For seven years, Olga taught at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, working across various levels of education and conducting teacher training programs, courses, and seminars. She also developed educational ballet programs and published four academic articles on ballet pedagogy and dance history. 

In 2022-2023, Olga served as Pedagogical Advisor at the Royal Danish Ballet School, where she in collaboration with the artistic director and teaching staff, developed the educational syllabus for the Pre-ballet section and led workshops for teachers. 

Since August 1, 2023, Olga has served as Vice Artistic Director and Principal Teacher at Tivoli Ballet School, overseeing teacher education and the development of a unified pedagogical system. In collaboration with Kristoffer Dahl Sakurai she has developed six programs for all levels of education and continues to integrate them into the school’s curriculum. 

DESCRIPTION

The Tivoli Ballet School Teachers Course is a specialized program aimed at dance teachers, dancers, and former dancers who have a background in classical ballet at the upper secondary level or higher. The course is led by Olga Mirza, Vice Artistic Director and Principal Teacher at Tivoli Ballet School, and is designed to deepen your understanding of ballet pedagogy according to TBS philosophy and syllabus, and to enhance your teaching skills. 

COURSE CONTENT

The program includes: 

  • Teaching Methodology: Learn how to teach Pre-Ballet and Level 1 following  the TBS syllabus.
  • Class Observations: Observe real TBS classes to see the syllabus and teaching methods in action.
  • Practical Workshops: Participate in hands-on workshops followed by theoretical analysis to understand the pedagogical approach.
  • Pedagogical Development: Gain insights into how to foster a healthy learning environment and nurture a positive studio climate.
  • Empowerment of Students: Develop skills to encourage student growth and empowerment.
  • Interactive Sessions: Engage in roundtable discussions, Q&A sessions, and open-floor discussions to share ideas and experiences.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course runs from February 10th to 15th, with an optional observation day on February 19th. Each day includes 4-5 classes covering a mix of theoretical lectures, practical workshops, video demonstrations, and interactive sessions. Participants will also receive individual feedback from course educators. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, participants will: 

  • Have a strong grasp of ballet terminology and exercise execution.
  • Understand and apply basic teaching methodologies in ballet.
  • Learn how personal characteristics and mental skills can create a positive learning environment.
  • Be able to develop, conduct, and evaluate a ballet class.
  • Create age-appropriate and level-appropriate ballet combinations.
  • Organize and plan a ballet education process.

EXAMINATION AND CERTIFICATION

The course includes a written exam, practical demonstrations, and theoretical presentations. Participants are required to attend all sessions actively and complete all tasks. The final exam will be held on the sixth day. Participants who pass will receive a Certificate of Attendance outlining education hours and covered topics. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Teaching, examination, and feedback are conducted in English.
  • All lectures, workshops, and classes take place at Tivoli Ballet School.
  • Course notes covering fundamental concepts will be provided.
  • Filming or recording during classes is strictly prohibited.
  • Lunch, tea, coffee and snacks are provided by Tivoli Ballet School during the week.

Full price for the course including lunch, tea, coffee and snacks: 12.500 DKK.

In order to register for the course, you need to fill out the following application form and sent to balletskolen@tivoli.dk:

Application deadline: January 7th 2025.

You will receive answer to your application as soon as possible and no later than 15th of January 2025. If you have been offered a place in the course, you will receive further practical information on how to sign up along with the confirmation.
